Jim Roberts is a real estate broker who has lived in the Dallas area and been in commercial real estate sales since 1984. He has extensive, broad-based experience in acquisitions and dispositions, property evaluation, letter of intent and contract negotiation, due diligence and managing time frames through closing.
In 1993, he founded First Texas Realty Group, a boutique company with an initial focus on working with institutions and servicers to dispose of REO and troubled assets. In the late 1990’s, its client base changed to primarily private real estate investment companies and its services to dispositions and acquisitions. A Dallas-based regional real estate company formed a brokerage relationship with Jim during this time which resulted in transactions exceeding 3 million square feet in the major Texas markets and 3 other states.
Jim has represented buyers and sellers in more than 6 million square feet of office, retail, multifamily, industrial and hotel transactions. His diverse background also includes sourcing retail, restaurant and entertainment related locations for expanding regional and national companies. He located 6 theater sites in the Midwest and Southwest for a Dallas-based national theater circuit and, in 2011, contracted to sell their excess and under-performing assets. Adding to his overall experience and understanding of commercial real estate, Jim has owned, managed, leased and asset managed properties.
Prior to First Texas Realty Group, Jim spent several years with Duddlesten Realty Advisors in Dallas, Texas, where he led the investment sales team. They solicited, listed and sold office, retail, industrial, multifamily and land properties for institutional owners and servicers. In the late 1980’s, he was one of two real estate professionals chosen to contract with First RepublicBank, Dallas, Texas, to work with senior management and potential purchasers to facilitate sales of REO assets of all property types. This unique and successful combining of real estate consultants and bankers was the forerunner for other area banks that adopted similar collaborations during the banking industry recovery.
